  Our Mission

The mission of The Game Preserve is to delight our customers and attract new ones by operating game stores which offer outstanding selection, expertise, and organization, and which practice kindness as their most important value.

Company History

Kit Newkirk opened the first Game Preserve store October 1, 1980 in an old house in the funky Broad Ripple neighborhood of Indianapolis. The shelves were stocked with Monopoly, Scrabble, chess, backgammon, Pente, and playing cards. Trivial Pursuit would soon be invented. Dungeons and Dragons was a little known newcomer. Bill Lorton joined her as a partner in early 1981.

In 1983, we decided to move the Game Preserve about a mile from Broad Ripple to the Galleria at Glendale, Indianapolis' oldest enclosed mall. The move brought many new customers to the store and made it a viable business. After five years at Glendale, we built in the Fashion Mall at Keystone Crossing, two miles north of the Glendale store.

In 1989 we added a second location in the Greenwood Park Mall, south of Indianapolis. After five years in the mall, we moved the store north on US 31 to Stop 12 Road, where you can still find it.

In 1991, an employee came forward with the idea of adding a third store in Bloomington in the newly renovated Fountain Square Mall on the courthouse square. In the same fashion, staff members instigated adding a store in West Lafayette in 1992.  You can now find our newest store in the Pavilions Mall on State Road 26 east of highway 52 in Lafayette.

The web site came into being in 1996. The goal was to offer web shoppers the great games and hard-to-find titles found in the stores, and to provide clearer, and more accurate information than was generally available. Today The Game Preserve has about 30 employees at five locations.  Many staffers have been with the company for years. Many customers are "second generation" patrons.

We still offer the same service and satisfaction guarantee upon which our reputation is built.

We hope you enjoy shopping with us.

Best wishes,

Bill Lorton

Greetings!

Welcome to the Game Preserve's monthly email.

Spring is rolling in, school's almost out, and no one wants to stay
inside when the weather is good! Friday, May 2nd, one might change their
mind. Shadowmoor, Magic The Gathering's newest release will be out and
The Game Preserve at the Fashion Mall is celebrating the release in a
very cool way. Starting 3:30p or 4:00, we'll be starting off the night
with a double-header! First, it'll be a sealed deck tournament. Take
your new tournament deck add 2 boosters and you have a half-an-hour to
make the best deck you can! After that, you'll be in a booster draft.
Open up a booster pack, take one card and pass on the rest. Good luck!
This is one of the most challenging types of game play anyone can play.
