Quiddler *On Sale*
Price $11.95
Sale Price: $8.49

A fast, appealing, and inexpensive word card game. Sort of a gin rummy with words. You start with three cards in your first hand, four on your next, and so on until you are dealt ten cards for your last hand. The challenge is to meld your entire hand into words. Draw and discard in turn. Try to use high scoring letters, but don't get caught with them uncombined. Quiddler rewards forming even short words because there is a bonus for making the most words in each round. Another bonus is rewarded for the longest word played in the round. Quicker and less intimidating than Scrabble Appealing card designs. Solitaire rules included.

Publisher The Set Game Company produces several high quality games, the most popular of which are Set, Quiddler, and Five Crowns.  Be sure and check them out!

Scrabble Deluxe Edition
Price $39.95

This is the best edition on the market. Smoothly turning board with storage for racks, wooden pieces, and draw string bag. Unlike older versions, this one won't knock the tiles off your rack while turning.

Here's a little known fact about Scrabble: it is less important to have a great vocabulary than to understand positioning. If, for example, you can put your X (8 points) in the corner of two Os (1 point) to spell the little word "OX" in both directions, and if that X is on a "triple letter score" square, you will score 50 points, which is much better than adding onto an E to spell "EXEGETE" (one who practices exegesis" for 15 points where there are no bonuses

We carry all editions of Scrabble which are licensed for sale in the USA. Magnetic Scrabble is not manufactured. Sadly, we can no longer obtain Scrabble in Russian, German, Hebrew, etc. Milton Bradley owns the rights and chooses to neither manufacture nor import other languages.

Scrabble Standard Edition
Price $17.95

This is the same set my grandparents took out every evening after the supper dishes were washed.

Folding cardboard board, hard maple tiles, wooden racks.

Here's how we used to get the tiles face down in the box: when a game ends, carefully tilt the board and carefully slide the tiles into the lid, printed side up. Then fold the board, place in the lid on top of the tiles, turn over lid, board, tiles and all. Then again tilt the board to slide tiles into the box. Cover with folded board, racks, Scrabble Dictionary (sold separately) and put away on the shelf until tomorrow night.

Scrabble Dictionary 4th Edition - Paperback
Price $7.50

The Official Scrabble Players Dictionary, 4th edition (OSPD4) is the essential tool of serious Scrabble players. It lists more than 100,000 2- to 8-letter words. Most dirty words have been expunged from this edition. Serious competitors actually memorize this book!

But beware, it may not settle disputes among friends and family. Some folks will complain when you try to use many of these words. Some object to words such as ìedî that are arguably abbreviations, not words. And there are plenty of words that seem a bit too foreign, such as ìciaoî, ìcasaî and "qi". And then there are the completely off the wall words like ìqophî and ìaaî. But if your group accepts the authority of the OSPD4 and if you learn some of its juicy little tidbits, your game will be better, and more fun.

Our well worn copy is re-inforced with box tape and on the inside of the tattered covers are recorded house records including highest single word score, highest two player total, lowest score on a bingo (59 points).

Buy Word
Price $26.95

Designed by Sid Sackson, who was among the most highly regarded US game designers. Sid passed away in 2002, but not before creating Buy Word.

"Instant classic: among the best of word games" BuyWord is a game of words with a twist. You pay good hard cash to buy your letters, then form a word to sell at a profit, if you can. Your payoff depends on the quantity and the quality of the letters in your word. BuyWord mixes basic mathematics, money management, and good old-fashioned word-building in a simple, yet elegant blend that keeps every player involved in every turn until the very end.

Contents: 108 wooden letter tiles, 9 wooden wild tiles, velvet bag, special die, Buyword cash, instructions

Perquackey
Price $10.95

Perquackey is another old favorite using lettered dice. On your turn you try to spell as many words as you can using 10 dice. But there are limits! You may only score up to five 3-letter words, five 4-letter words... and only three 10-letter words.

Once you have earned 2,000 points, you become "vulnerable". You may use three more dice, but you may not score three letter words.

Tin box edition contains 13 lettered dice, cup, instructions and sand timer as well as instructions.
