Warning: Choking Hazard. Small Parts. Not for children under 3 yrs.
A fast, appealing, and inexpensive word card game. Sort of a gin rummy with words. You start with three cards in your first hand, four on your next, and so on until you are dealt ten cards for your last hand. The challenge is to meld your entire hand into words. Draw and discard in turn. Try to use high scoring letters, but don't get caught with them uncombined. Quiddler rewards forming even short words because there is a bonus for making the most words in each round. Another bonus is rewarded for the longest word played in the round. Quicker and less intimidating than Scrabble Appealing card designs. Solitaire rules included.
Publisher The Set Game Company produces several high quality games, the most popular of which are Set, Quiddler, and Five Crowns. Be sure and check them out!
This is the same set my grandparents took out every evening after the supper dishes were washed.
Folding cardboard board, hard maple tiles, wooden racks.
Here's how we used to get the tiles face down in the box: when a game ends, carefully tilt the board and carefully slide the tiles into the lid, printed side up. Then fold the board, place in the lid on top of the tiles, turn over lid, board, tiles and all. Then again tilt the board to slide tiles into the box. Cover with folded board, racks, Scrabble Dictionary (sold separately) and put away on the shelf until tomorrow night.
Classy nylon zip-up case. Tiles snap into racks and snap into the board. Board folds with letters in place, so you can re-visit your game. Draw string cloth bag stores plastic letters.
This version is still bigger than it needs to be. Nylon case packs several cubic inches of spare air. But it is a big improvement over the travel version we've been fighting for years. At least you can put it away with the letters inside without breaking the board.
Folded size: 10.5 x 6.5 x 2.5 inches
The new board offers more squares, higher bonuses at the outer limits, more tiles, and a longer game. 200 letter tiles in an all-new distribution allow you to make words not possible in the standard game.
This old Scrabble player would rather play two games of the original than one long game of this super version.
