A Pinochle deck differs from a conventional deck of cards in that there are only 48 cards. It consists of: A (high), K, Q, J, 10, 9 (low) in each of the four suits, with two of each card.

The basic game of Pinochle is two-hand Pinochle, which derives from the European game of Bezique. players have since created many interesting variations of Pinochle, including good versions for three players, four players (with partners, some including bidding subtleties incorporated from Bridge), and more.
