Hisss - Snake building game
Price $12.95

As each Hisss snake slithers its way across the playing area it introduces color identification and visual logic: Does it make sense to have a snake with two tails and no head? Are those two colors the same or not? Even elementary counting skills come into play during scoring at the end of the game.

Quoridor
Price $29.95

The object of the game is to advance your pawn to the opposite edge of the board. On your turn you may either move your pawn or place a wall. Walls can hinder your opponents progress, but not stop him completely. Naturally, he is trying to do the same to you.

Nice wooden components are enjoyable to handle. Contents: Wooden board which stores as well as plays the 20 fences, four pawns, and rules.

Quoridor has won a number of awards including Mensa, Parent's Choice Gold, and Grand Prix du Jouet. There is a four player variant, but we like the two player game better.

Crocodile Dentist
Price $14.95

Crocodile dentist has made hundreds of our customers gasp, screech, and giggle. We keep one out on the counter for folks to try.

Poor old croc has a tooth that's bothering him; pretend to be a Dentist to help him out. Press the wrong tooth and he'll surprise you.

Contains: 1 plastic Crocodile. No loose parts.

Mankala - Striped (Mancala)
Price $22.95

18 x 5 x 2.5 inches.

Pass the Bomb - Junior Edition
Price $19.95

Some folks on our staff prefer this junior edition to its parent, the best-selling Pass the Bomb. We love to recommend this game because it is creative, funny, interactive, and fast. Kids aged 5 and up stand about as good a chance as those of us whose ages start with the number five.

Flip up a card. In cartoon style, a scene is depicted. When the ticking bomb comes to you, shout out something that would fit into the scene, then toss the bomb to the next person.

Fast, funny, educational, and entertaining for all ages.

Skittles replacement parts
Price $49.95

Contains top, string, pins, and instructions. Fits Berea Skittles. Picture only shows pin, but entire kit included.

Mad Libs - Original Word Game
Price $3.95

This zany word game is a family favorite. Each page has a story with words left out. For example: Joe and _______(person) were walking the _________(adjective) dog. Take turns filling in the appropriate gramatical items, resulting in a very silly story.

These Mad Libs are assorted, so we aren't offering any specific titles. You get two per pack, for twice the fun.

Stratego
Price $19.95

Problem is knowing which of your opponent's pieces IS the flag, as opposed to say a bomb or a spy. The identity of a piece is only revealed when struck. Use deduction, luck, and tactics to find and capture the other guy's flag before yours falls.

Every game is different because players begin by arranging their different pieces. When I was growing up, we often came back to our Stratego game. It would be fun to see how many of our house rules and variants the sibs can remember.

See also Ultimate Stratego for the 4 player version.

Mystery Garden
Price $11.95

Randomly place the 48 picture cards face down around the game board. The youngest player begins by picking up any one of the picture cards they choose, being sure not to show it to any of the other players. This picture card shows an exact picture of an object on the game board. The other players try to guess the object by asking "yes" or "no" questions. After each question, the single playing piece is moved along the path in the mystery garden. The player who correctly guesses the object shown on the picture card keeps that card and draws another one from around the game board.

Then the questions begin again. If no one has guesses the object by the time the playing piece reaches the castle, the player answering the questions keeps the picture card and draws another one and the questioning starts over. The player with the most picture cards at the end of the game wins.

Carcassonne - English Language Edition
Price $24.95

Players of Carcassonne take turns drawing and laying down tiles to create a landscape made of roads, fields, walled cities, and monasteries. When a player puts a piece into the landscape, he make occupy one of its features, such as the road, city, or farm. As his road or farm expands with the addition of new tiles, it becomes more valuable... unless joined to an opponent's feature. The player with the most points once all the tiles have been played is the winner.

On your turn you draw a tile and place it next to one of the tiles already on the table. You decide where to play, but you must match the features on your tile to ones already played. You may then place one of your men on one of the features of the tile you have just laid. Put him in a city and he becomes a knight; in a monastery and he becomes a monk; on a road a thief; and in a field a farmer. The goal is to build long roads, high-scoring cities, monasteries without running out of the men that you need. There is an element of luck as you may or may not draw the tile that furthers your plans, but plenty of skill in deciding how to deploy your tiles and men.

While the box is not preposessing, the game in progress is quite appealing. Winner of several awards and big favorite with Game Preserve Staff, Carcassonne is heartily recommended.
